On this podcast, Maanda Tshifularo interviewed Shirley Machaba, who is the CEO of PWC Southern Africa. Notably the group’s first female CEO. Shirley is a Chartered Accountant with over 26 years of experience and has been a partner at PWC for over 15 years. On this podcast, Shirley shared her journey so beautifully, highlighting not just the successes but setbacks as well. We talked about leading a purpose-driven life and organization. And to be sure, this is not necessarily an easy road. Its one filled with mistakes, failures, successes and most importantly fulfillment. Shirley got pregnant in Matric year, failed most of her Accounting courses in the first semester of her first year in varsity, repeated CTA three times, and attempted CA board exam three times. She has also enjoyed a successful career which she elaborates on the podcast. And she summarized purpose-driven leadership by saying, when you take up a leadership role – you give yourself over, you hand yourself over for the cause. Its no longer about you, its about the cause, the purpose. And thats how she has lived her life.
